BOBCARD Credit Cards Airport Lounge Access Devaluation

14 November, 2024

BOBCARD has introduced a new minimum quarterly spending requirement to qualify for complimentary airport lounge access with its credit cards. This change comes shortly after similar changes by other popular issuers, such as ICICI Bank. Previously, there were no spending criteria for BOBCARD credit cards; however, a new requirement has now been established. Premium cards will require a minimum spend of ₹40,000, while mid-range and other credit cards will require a spending of ₹20,000 in the previous calendar quarter for free airport lounge access. These changes will take effect on January 1, 2025.

Credit card issuers in India are updating their terms and devaluing their credit cards left, right, and center. Unfortunately, this trend is now slowing becoming the norm. While this is expected for lifetime free credit cards, even those that come with a high annual fee are facing similar treatment.

Recently, there has been a significant increase in traffic at airport lounges across the country. To address this, banks have introduced spending requirements for lounge access. For BOBCARD credit cards, the issuer has set spending thresholds of ₹20,000 and ₹40,000 for access to various lounges. However, these changes mean that airport lounge access is no longer complimentary. It is now conditional.

From Eterna to Premier credit card, many offerings from BOBCARD shall be devalued starting on 1st January 2025.
